Stephen A. McAdams, MD, FCCP

Dr. McAdams graduated from Indiana University School of Medicine and completed his residency in internal medicine and fellowship in pulmonary disease at the Naval Hospital, San Diego, CA. Dr. McAdams is board certified in pulmonary disease and internal medicine.

Dr. McAdams practiced pulmonary and critical care medicine for 13 years before moving to full time physician executive status in 1994. He taught Critical Care and Pulmonary medicine to residents and medical students, and he was voted Best Teacher in 1988 from the St. Vincent Family Practice Residency Program and was voted a “Top Doc” in Indianapolis Monthly magazine.

He worked for St. Vincent Hospital and Health Care System as Director of Ambulatory Services and managed an 80 physician primary care network. In 1997, Dr. McAdams joined Nasser, Smith & Pinkerton Cardiology in Indiana as a Medical Director and then later was promoted to Chief Operations Officer. It was there that he assisted in the development and implementation of the GEMMS Electronic Patient Clinical Information System (ECIS).

In 1999, Dr. McAdams moved to Charlotte, NC as CEO of Mid Carolina Cardiology, a 27 physician Cardiology practice with 6 practice locations. Mid Carolina Cardiology has implemented the GEMMS ECIS in all practice sites, and it is fully integrated with the practice management system, bringing numerous efficiencies to both the clinical and financial operations of the practice. He is currently involved with linking similar ECIS platforms across the country to form a clinical data warehouse that will assist in cardiac benchmarking, best practice definition, and serve as a resource to industry for cardiology research and cardiac device development and testing.
